On the Way - Confirmation Journey.
We are pleased to announce an exciting new initiative, “On the Way,” which is being run on behalf of the parishes of Hemel West, Hemel East, Berkhamsted and Tring. This programme is open to all our young people to help them explore discipleship of the Lord and the Catholic Faith. This includes those who are considering being formed for the Sacrament Confirmation which is an important milestone in our journey in faith. Our Catechist and Youth Worker, Callum Moore, will be running this programme in St Mark’s Church in JFK.
This will take place directly after the school day, starting at 4pm in St Mark’s church to allow for students from other schools other than JFK to attend.
These weekly sessions take place during term time only, in small groups, over hot chocolate and biscuits, and they are an opportunity to discuss the big questions of life, learn more about Catholicism and have time to explore their journey in faith and what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
The programme runs on a two-year cycle during which time we help you discern the appropriate time for you to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Those on the course take part in a range of additional activities such as: Flame 2025 (a Catholic Youth gathering in Wembley Arena on Saturday 15 March), a Retreat (date to be decided), Bring and Share International Food nights, a Walking Pilgrimage to St Albans Cathedral (Saturday 7th June), and a trip to our Cathedral in Westminster (date to be decided). There will also be an opportunity to take part in a sponsored sleepout in aid of DENS.
In addition to this there are parish events and Masses in each of the parishes which will be communicated to you through the parishes. This will help the Parish Priests get to know the candidates and for them to find their place in the parish and find some form of service.
The Sacrament of Confirmation, through the gifts of the Holy Spirit, strengthens our faith and life in the Church. It marks the start of adult life in the Catholic community rooted in our parish communities. On the way we form friendships with other disciples and have the joy of knowing the Lord.
There are two pathways on this journey:
1. Those who feel ready to begin their journey to the Sacrament of Confirmation.
